Four years ago, I was blessed to have been chosen by 2GO Travel as one of 12 lucky individuals who toured around the Philippines for free, for 12 days. We traveled around Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao, experiencing what the Philippines had to offer. We visited waterfalls, heritage houses, springs, and highlands while sampling native dishes such as La Paz batchoy, chicken inasal, sikwate, lechon, and crocodile sisig. Some of the best experiences and activities we tried include white water rafting and river cruising, which featured plenty of new insights on local history and culture. Although this itinerary mostly follows the same route we took, we did make a few changes to it so it’s more doable for backpackers. Of course, one of the most exciting parts of traveling around the Philippine archipelago is using its waterways, where you not only enjoy its beauty, but also appreciate the interconnectivity of our islands.
